The 3rd and final of my 3 favorite West Coast red ales? Mermaid’s Red at Coronado Brewing Company. Whether you travel to the Coronado, Calif. brewpub by bridge, ferry or aircraft carrier, it’s a great place to drink So Cal suds. Coronado Brewing calls their Mermaid’s Red an American amber ale. Measuring in at 5.7% ABV (alcohol by volume) and 64 IBUs (International Bitterness Units—a measure of the bitterness of beer), it’s a taste of island paradise.
The Spinach Artichoke Dip is pretty scrumptious, too. It’s spinach, artichoke, cream cheese, mozzarella, parmesan and garlic with a hint of red pepper, served with a side of tortilla chips.
