Crave – food & drink

In San Francisco? Looking to sink your teeth into some Italian? The Nob Hill Cafe at 1152 Taylor St. is a cozy, bustling neighborhood trattoria, open for lunch & dinner. Known for its authentic Tuscan cuisine, the family-owned restaurant is located just a few blocks from the InterContinental Mark Hopkins and Fairmont Hotel. It’s also within walking distance of the Huntington Hotel, Stanford Court, and Ritz-Carlton.

When I dined there this weekend, it was absolutely brimming with humans. They spilled out the door and onto the sidewalk, waiting for tables. There are no reservations; it’s walk-in only. (Take out is available, too.)

The food inside the Nob Hill Cafe is delectable & affordable, and the servers are friendly & attentive. I ordered the Insalata Mista ($7) and received a generous portion of mixed greens with lemon herb dressing and parmigiano. It was light & refreshing—perfect for a balmy San Francisco evening. Next I had the Lasagne al Forno ($15.75) with fennel seed sausage, ground beef, bechamel and mozzarella. The bright red dish was rich, smooth, creamy and tangy—all at once.

I won’t say what I had for dessert…
