Researchers at Florida International University in Miami have developed a Wall of Wind, the country’s most powerful hurricane simulator. The massive machine, which measures 8,000 square feet, has 12 electric fans—each 6 feet in diameter. Housed behind 26-foot doors, WOW is capable of simulating a Category 5 hurricane. With wind speeds of up to 157 miles per hour, it is designed to test the hurricane resiliency of homes, warehouses, light poles and more. The goal is to build safer communities that can survive the destructive power of hurricanes.

I wonder what kind of wave action WOW can kick up…
