Crave – food & drink

Looking for a dressy meal on a casual budget? Bittersweet Bistro in Aptos (Santa Cruz County) offers $6 Recession Crushers.

Last night, I attended Pasta Party Wednesday with selected pastas priced at $6, beginning at 3:30 p.m. I sampled the Spinach Gorgonzola Pasta: penne pasta baked with gorgonzola, ricotta & parmesan cheeses, spinach, garlic and shallots in a light bechamel sauce. The dish was perfectly baked; the penne tips and bread crumb topping were a crispy, toasty, golden brown. The sauce was rich enough to stand up to a Cabernet Sauvignon, and the dish was filling. Other $6 plates included Cheese Ravioli, Beef Stroganoff, Chicken Puttanesca, Meat Lasagna, or Meatballs & Pasta. Garlic Bread—soft slices of French bread topped with a tasty garlic spread & parmesan cheese, browned & served fresh from the oven—was also available for $6.
