Pulse – events & entertainment

I love TV shows that are dark, clever & funny. Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) and Rob Thomas’ Veronica Mars (2004-2007) are two such shows.

While Buffy Summers slayed vampires, demons and other dark forces for 7 seasons, Veronica Mars was granted only 3 seasons of sassy sleuthing in the Southern California beach town of Neptune (which according to some sleuthing by my buddy, Esteban, is a fictionalized version of Carlsbad, Calif.).

Thanks to creator Rob Thomas and actress Kristen Bell (who plays the heroine), Veronica Mars is being resurrected with a Kickstarter campaign. The Veronica Mars Movie Project set a goal to raise $2 million in 30 days. Five days into the campaign, the project has attracted more than 55,700 backers who have pledged more than $3.6 million! (Yes, I am one of those backers. I believe in putting my money where my fangs are.)

Through the Kickstarter campaign, backers can get an array of items with a pledge. A pledge of $10 gets you a PDF of the shooting script, $25 gets you a limited-edition T-shirt, $35 gets you a digital version of the movie plus the other stuff. There are many other packages for pledges of $50 & up. Details are available at http://kck.st/Z1HJRR.

This project is proof that persistence pays off, so kudos to Rob and Kristen for making the movie happen. We fans can’t wait to see what the alumni of Neptune High School have been up to since graduation. Murder or some other felonious activities? Or maybe a class reunion with a body count? We’ll see on opening night in 2014!
