Pulse – events & entertainment

I’m gliding up the coast tonight to San Francisco to tap my inner surf punk and see Wavves play live.

The new album, Afraid of Heights, drops Tuesday. An NPR story says it demonstrates influences like Nirvana, Green Day and Weezer, and I can agree with that. Like King of the Beach and Life Sux, the album has tasty pop hooks but is coarser & grungier than you’d find in mainstream rock—which makes it all the more fun.

If you don’t have tickets to the sold-out show, you can sample the new tracks here: http://www.npr.org/2013/03/17/174236696/first-listen-wavves-afraid-of-heights

My favorite tracks on Afraid of Heights? “Sail to the Sun” and “Lunge Forward.”
